Remember, July 4 isn’t merely a celebration of fireworks, nationalism, geography, or anti-British sentiment. It’s the anniversary of the day in 1776 that the Continental Congress ratified a document proclaiming the timeless and inalienable rights of each individual, which
not even government may violate. Stick to that idea -- instead of generating endless excuses to defy it -- and we may yet flourish.
