Nor can I imagine McCain, Palin, Huckabee, Giuliani, or Paul getting the nomination in 2012 and having much chance in the general election.
In fact, of all the weird almost-but-not-quite candidates in the GOP primaries in 2008, the only one I can imagine mounting a serious comeback is…Fred Thompson, and that’s not saying much.
But who in 2012, then? Gingrich? Pawlenty?

I say Mitch Daniels, who burnished his conservatism for punks credentials here.
We could certainly use more “sons of anarchy” (not a bad description of Rand Paul, perhaps — as profiled in the May _Reason_, copy of which I’ll have on hand while paying an exploratory visit to Langan’s bar from 5:45-6:30 tonight, if anyone wants to catch me there).
We’ve got no one. Again. Pawlenty is such a bore. I believe he also has a lazy eye. Can you imagine this 1/3 of a man being eaten alive by the witches of “The View”?
Oddly enough, multiple parts of your description sound a _lot_ like a scene from the _Clash of the Titans_ remake of which I saw an advance screening last night (more on that in my April 2 entry!).
I have a Republican ex with a slightly lazy eye (periodically adjusted by surgery), so he’d probably have her vote.
By contrast, a left-wing friend of mine once claimed he could spot crazy people because he’s “never gone wrong betting on the googly eyes,” so he probably can’t be won over.
