[...] Just as my “Month of Liberty (i.e., Property)” blog entries last month noted the hundredth anniversary of Barry Goldwater’s birth, the “Month of Evolution” I begin today will include a celebration of the 200th anniversary of Charles Darwin’s birth. He ranks with Isaac Newton, Adam Smith, and Albert Einstein among those who have helped us understand the basic rules by which the universe operates.
Dear Todd,

We haven't seen you in ages, but I thought of you when listening to Ron Paul during one of the debates. He made so much sense on many things. Why didn't he have a better coach? Unfortunately, he came off as whiney rather than convincing. Maybe next time around.

[...] This is naturally offensive to anyone who values freedom and democracy in any meaningful sense, so, a good antidote to the Castro brothers’ celebration of tyranny is the centennial of Barry Goldwater’s birth. Blogger Todd Seavey notes on Goldwater’s 1964 presidential run: That year the Republican platform was so explicitly pro-free enterprise and anti-big government you’d think Ayn Rand wrote most of it. Goldwater lost bigtime to the architect of much of our subsequent big-government despair — Lyndon Johnson — but inspired a generation of later activists, to whom much of the credit goes for whatever success America’s had in avoiding European-style social democracy, at least until roughly now.
I gather that a big reason for the Interior Western states turning bluer is people fleeing the taxes and regulations of California and taking their blueness with them. Here's hoping some equilibrium is eventually achieved that leaves things on balance more free-market, but who knows. (Or we may need to police the Californian border more to keep the Californians from getting into America -- joking!)

Barry was a great man and unfortunately his message was overlooked by too many people.
Unfortunately his home state, Arizona is turning blue and I am certain he would not approve.
